American Staffing Association Index is Supportive of
Recovery
ASA Staffing Index = 79.
Since June of 2006, The American Staffing Association
(ASA) has reported a Staffing Index, reflective of week-to-week
changes in staffing employment activity. Each week,
participating staffing companies report their numbers,
which are compiled by the ASA, as a current measure
of industry employment trends. The index value of 100
was established in June of 2006, with subsequent index
releases benchmarked against this baseline. As points
of reference, the index peaked at 110 in December of
2007, while the index troughed at 69 in December of
2008, as well as December of 2009. At present, the index
stands at 79, up 1.52% from its most prior reading.
Anecdotally, Accentuate Staffing has observed a similar
acceleration in activity over the past quarter. Our
office professional division, which focuses upon executive
administrative, customer service and human resource
positions, reported its highest gross margin numbers
for the most recent quarter, as compared to the previous
five quarters. Similarly, and probably more encouraging
for the community at-large, our light industrial / distribution
division is consistently reporting the highest numbers
of its four year history, hopefully reflective of the
increased local output of goods.
While political and legislative risks, and capital
constraints, continue to negatively influence certainty,
we're hopeful that our local economy continues to show
increased signs of improvement.
